Hillsborough County Dental Hygiene Association Winter Seminar:  6 for $60

 

HCDHA is offering an easy and fun way to earn 6 CE credits, including Florida mandated courses.  Support our association by joining us on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 8:00 – 3:00.   Topics being presented are Medical Errors, New to You from HuFriedy, and Domestic Violence.  Lunch is included in your registration fee.  Time is running out!  The current biennium ends February 28, 2010!

·        Domestic Violence – 2 CE credits, Florida mandated course, every third biennium.  Example, taken the first biennium, skip second biennium, required again the third biennium.

Guest Speakers

·        Paula Porter-Smith, CDA, RDH, BA – Medical Errors (8 – 10)  Paula is a full-time faculty member at Hillsborough Community College’s (HCC) dental hygiene program.  She earned her A.S. in Dental Hygiene from Santa Fe College and her B.A. in Political Science from the University of South Florida.  She is currently working on her M.S. degree in Health Science with a concentration in health programs education.  Paula serves on the executive board of the Florida Allied Dental Educators Association (FADE), and she is HCC’s Student American Dental Hygienist’s Association’s advisor.  Paula’s presentation of Medical Errors will be interactive and interesting. 

·        Michele Furu, RDH – New To You from Hu-Friedy (10-12) Michele has 20+ years of clinical hygiene experience in both general and periodontal settings.  She has lectured nationally on Ultrasonics for many years.  She holds the position of our local HuFriedy representative, and continues to instill enthusiasm and educate dental hygienists for the betterment of the profession and patient care.  Michele’s lecture will provide us with the most current information on new and innovative hand and power scalers.

·        Brenda Rouse – Domestic Violence (1 – 3) Brenda is a third generation Tampa native.  She has worked in non-profit organizations for most of her career, and has been with The Spring of Tampa Bay for many years.  She is responsible for managing the volunteers, and communications department, which includes the speaker’s bureau and community education.  Brenda gladly speaks to organizations such as ours about domestic violence and how we can recognize it in our practices.  She also visits children and adults in the school system to give them a better understanding about domestic violence and what they can do to prevent it, or services that are in place to help them if they are victims themselves.
